Is dog poop easy to clean off artificial turf?
Solid stool lifts off artificial turf easily, usually with a bag and no residue. Soft or loose stool is the problem. It presses between the blades and into the sand infill, where scrubbing drives it deeper and a rinse only spreads it across the yard.
Owners of a three dog yard in Clairemont told us their turf was fine because they picked up every day. It was fine on top. Underneath, the infill in the two shaded corners had gone dark and greasy, and the smell hit as soon as the afternoon sun swung around.
Firm stool is a non event. That is the honest answer, and it is why turf works well for most dog households.
What actually sticks
Loose stool, mostly from diet changes or a dog that got into something. It gets pressed down when the dog turns or when somebody steps on it before they see it.
Once it is in the infill, it is below the blade line. A garden hose at 40 to 60 PSI moves water across the top of the turf and drains through, which relocates the material rather than removing it.
Heat makes it worse. San Diego turf surfaces read well over 140 degrees on a July afternoon, and warm infill holds odor the way a warm sponge does.

What we tell dog owners to do between visits
Pick up solids the same day. Not because the turf will stain, but because a dog that walks through it spreads it across 200 square feet of blade surface within an hour.
Skip the scrub brush on soft messes. Blot and lift instead. A stiff brush works the material down between fibers and into the sand, which turns a five minute cleanup into something we have to extract later.
And stop using bleach. We have seen backing separate at the seams on two yards where owners poured it straight on, and that is not something a cleaning fixes.
When does a pet yard need professional extraction?
Once a year for a single dog. Twice for two or more, especially through summer, when the odor cycle gets short and a rinse buys you three days.
A 400 to 600 square foot dog yard that has gone a year takes us 75 to 90 minutes, because the first pass never gets it all. The pet corners get a second pass at slower travel speed.
