What does an artificial grass maintenance service actually include?

A maintenance visit clears loose debris with a power broom and power sweep, works a peroxide-based cleaning solution into high-use areas, adds pet-friendly infill, and ends with a final inspection. Yards with tough smells also get an extractor pass. A 500 sq ft backyard usually takes about 1.5 to 2.5 hours.

We clean over 50 yards a month out of our Poway base, so the order of the work is something we have settled on through repetition.

Why does the order of the steps matter?

Debris comes first. If you wet a yard that still has leaves, grit and pine needles on it, you press all of it down into the infill.

So we start with the power broom and power sweep. The broom stands the blades back up and the sweep pulls out what was sitting between them.

Only then does the cleaning solution go on. We use a peroxide-based product and concentrate on the lanes people and dogs walk every day, the gate, the patio edge and the corner by the fence.

Does every yard get the extractor?

No.

The extractor is for yards with tough smells, usually a dog that has used the same corner for a year or two. A yard that is dusty and gray from Santa Ana season does not need it, and we say so up front.

How often should a yard be serviced?

Once or twice a year suits most backyards. Two or more dogs, or a yard under a eucalyptus or a pepper tree in Rancho Bernardo, usually calls for a shorter cycle.

Fall is a good time. The dust from the Santa Ana winds has settled, and the infill gets a reset before the rainy months.

What should you check before you book?

  • Ask what order the work is done in, and whether debris removal comes first.
  • Ask whether the extractor is used on every job or only where the smell calls for it.
  • Ask what happens at the end of the visit and who inspects the yard.
  • Ask whether pet-friendly infill is put back where it has been displaced.

You can read more about how we work on our services page, or see the Poway page if you are close to our base.

If we cleaned your turf, we would love to hear about it on Google. Mention the neighborhood and what the yard needed.
