Why Would Anyone Keep Artificial Turf When Natural Grass Is an Option?

And that doesn't account for San Diego's water restrictions. The San Diego County Water Authority has pushed tiered pricing that makes large grass lawns expensive to maintain from May through October.
What Happens When Turf Doesn't Get Cleaned?
We pulled up a section of turf in Rancho Bernardo last month that hadn't been touched in three years. The infill had compacted to about 60% of its original depth. Drainage was shot. The surface temperature hit 158 degrees on a 90-degree day because the matted fibers couldn't release heat.
The smell was worse.
Pet waste breaks down into the infill layer over time. Without steam treatment at 180 degrees or higher, bacteria colonies grow exponentially. We measured bacterial counts on that Rancho Bernardo yard at 47x the level of a yard we clean quarterly.
