Does Every Turf Cleaning Visit Include Extraction?

No. Extraction is a conditional step we use only on yards with tough smells that don't clear with our peroxide-based cleaning solution alone. Most visits skip it entirely. A standard cleaning covers debris removal, solution application, and fresh pet-friendly infill, finished with a final inspection.

We get asked about the extractor more than any other piece of equipment we own. Homeowners see it on the trailer and assume it comes out on every job. It doesn't.

What Actually Happens on a Standard Visit

Every job starts the same way. We clear loose debris first, using a power broom and power sweep to get leaves, sticks, and surface dirt off the turf before anything else touches it. Working a cleaning solution into a yard that's still covered in debris just pushes the mess around instead of lifting it out.

Once the surface is clear, we apply a peroxide-based cleaning solution, focusing on high-use areas and anywhere we can see a problem spot. Then we lay down fresh pet-friendly infill. That's the standard sequence, and it's what most yards get.

We finish with a final inspection and a touch-up pass. If something needs more attention, we handle it before we pack up. Not on a follow-up visit.

When Does the Extractor Actually Come Out?

Only on yards with tough smells that the solution doesn't fully resolve. That's usually a yard with years of concentrated pet use in one spot, or a yard nobody's cleaned in a long time.

We ran into this on a job off Twin Peaks Road in Poway last spring. A single corner of the yard had been the household dog's spot for two years straight. The rest of the yard needed one normal pass. That corner needed the extractor, because the solution alone wasn't lifting what had built up below the blades.

How Long Does a Standard Visit Take?

A 500 square foot backyard runs about 1.5 to 2.5 hours, start to finish. Yards with a tough-smell corner needing the extractor sometimes run longer, since that step gets added on top of the standard sequence, not swapped in for it.

We clean more than 50 yards a month across San Diego County from our base in Poway. Most of them never need the extractor. When one does, we don't guess. We use it because the yard actually needs it, not because it's part of a script we run on autopilot.
