What does an artificial turf cleaning service actually do?

An artificial turf cleaning service in San Diego clears loose debris with a power broom and power sweep, applies a peroxide-based cleaning solution to high-use areas, applies pet-friendly infill, and finishes with an inspection. Yards with tough smells also get an extractor pass. A 500 sq ft backyard takes about 1.5 to 2.5 hours.

We clean over 50 yards a month, and the question we hear most is what happens after we pull up. Here is the order we work in, and why we do not shuffle it.

Step 1: Why does debris come off first?

Loose debris goes first, with a power broom and power sweep. Leaves, grit, and dried pet matter sit on top of the infill. If a cleaning solution goes down over that layer, it soaks into the debris instead of the turf.

The broom also lifts blades that have laid flat. On a matted lane from the back door to the gate, you can see the difference before anything else happens.

Step 2: Where does the cleaning solution go?

We apply a peroxide-based cleaning solution to the turf surface and focus on high-use and problem areas. That means the dog run along the fence, the patio edge, and the spot under the downspout. The whole yard is covered, but those areas get the attention.

Step 3: What is pet-friendly infill for?

Infill settles and thins out in traffic lanes. We apply pet-friendly infill as a standard step so the blades stay upright and the surface cushions the way it should.

Does every visit include extraction?

No. The extractor is for yards with tough smells only. A yard with light dust and some leaf litter does not need it. A yard where two dogs have used the same corner for two summers usually does.

If anyone tells you every job gets extraction, ask what that visit actually included.

Step 5: What does the final inspection catch?

We walk the yard at the end and address anything that needs more attention. Seams, corners, and the shaded strip by the fence are where we most often find a spot worth a second pass.

How long does it take?

A 500 sq ft residential backyard takes about 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Larger yards and heavier buildup take longer.

We work out of Poway and cover all of San Diego County. Rancho Bernardo and Scripps Ranch yards are some of the ones we see most, especially after Santa Ana season fills the infill with grit.
